Koen et Jan Buytaert, deux frères, sont à l’origine de The Roswell Incident. Nous sommes ici en terrain connu. D’abord, de longues plages planantes, tout en nappes et en volutes. Surviennent ensuite les séquenceurs, d’abord discrets, puis dans toute leur gloire : de la pure Berlin School ! Tout y est : non seulement l’atmosphère, mais également la structure. Plutôt plaisante sur CD (le disque, The Crash, est sorti en octobre, à l’occasion du E-Live), la musique de The Roswell Incident devient franchement impressionnante sur scène. Les frères Buytaert seront forcément à suivre. Eux aussi ne devraient avoir aucune peine à convaincre en Allemagne.

The Roswell Incident avait déjà fait une excellente impression sur l'auditoire du premier B-Wave Festival en Belgique, en décembre 2013. Atmosphères, séquences, nappes : les frères Koen et Jan Buytaert manipulent les armes de la Berlin School la plus classique. Moins romantiques que leurs homologues allemands, moins joyeux que les Néerlandais, ils explorent en revanche une facette étonnamment sombre de ce genre si particulier. Parlera-t-on un jour à leur sujet de Dark Berlin School ? Ce n'est pas dans sa manière d'interpréter, mais dans sa manière de concevoir la Berlin School que le groupe se distingue de tous les autres. Koen et Jan savent choisir leurs textures avec goût, ménager leurs effets avec intelligence et, surtout, introduire leurs séquences avec une rare subtilité. En fait, toute personne un peu familière avec Tangerine Dream se laissera immédiatement transporter dans leur univers.

The Roswell Incident, un dernier duo, clôturait la soirée. Il n’a fallu que quelques mois aux frères Koen et Jan Buytaerts pour conquérir leur public, notamment à l’occasion de deux prestations mémorables au B-Wave en Belgique (2013) et au E-Live aux Pays-Bas (2014). Koen et Jan ont compris ce qu’était une séquence et ils le prouvent une fois de plus ce soir avec un show 100% inédit. D’abord étonnement tranquilles et prudents, loin de l’univers sombre auquel ils nous avaient habitués, ils introduisent ensuite ces séquences dont ils ont le secret, puissantes et travaillées, instantanément convaincantes. Le point fort de Roswell Incident reste sans doute cette capacité à ménager ses effets. Ce soir, c’est l’intensité croissante, le crescendo, jusqu’à ce climax où les séquences s’enchevêtrent et culminent pour mourir brutalement. On peut regretter qu’ils n’aient pas fini là-dessus !

The main act of Sonic Emissions was The Roswell Incident. The brothers Koen and Jan Buytaert also planned the release of their fifth CD (‘Trapped Part One’) at this festival. Self-will is the trump card of the Buytaert brothers. No tracks from their new CD, but other new work.
We were told that The Roswell Incident keeps playing music at their shows that no one has heard yet. Surrounded by a load of synths and electronic all sorts, the Buytaerts began to unleash their newfound experimental and dark urges on the public. Surprisingly, they didn't sound like they usually sound.
After about ten minutes, the sequencers kicked in slowly, replacing the rushing and exploratory sonic sounds with pumping and infectious sequences in the Berlin School style. The pleasant set was provided with subdued rest points that brought variation. The traditional sequencer waves created order and peace in the minds of those present.
The more experimental allure of the festival was made easily digestible with the digestif of the Buytaert brothers. The Roswell Incident closed Sonic Emissions with a modest and beautiful set.

Schulze is dead, long live Schulze
After a long break to lubricate the throats with a local barley drink, it was the turn of The Roswell Incident to close the event. The Buytaert brothers turned out to be in super shape. We got a varied set in which of course the sequencers also produced the necessary sensation. The Roswell Incident let the spirit of grandmaster Schulze float through space with beautifully balanced electronic pulses, downtempo beats and crystal clear pumping soundscapes. The duo sounded fresher and better than ever before and proved with this performance that we can expect a lot more from them. We saw and heard that it was very good.
